Chapter Twenty-Two: Just A Little Lie…

Robin expected chaos at the Dearborn Police headquarters. Reporters were like sharks when it came to a story, they could smell it a mile away. Reporters jammed the police building and descended on the chief, and demanded an explanation.

No one bought this ‘exercise’ cover anymore. CIA tried to put a lid on the news videos, yet still plenty of witnesses appeared. Witnesses who had computers…and social media. The video of the burning Corvette from the park on Esper Street already had 100,000 hits. It was one thing the exercise task force happened to be at a club where Muslims gathered - but to be involved in a firefight and explosion the same night…come on.

A text from Brian’s editor brought him and Robin to Dearborn. The Police Chief would be giving a statement soon regarding the raid. The Detroit Police had no comment on the fire and corpse which, apparently didn’t exist officially.

Robin and Brian sped to the white hallways of the police headquarters. She should have been focused on this ‘breaking story’, but she couldn’t get the image of Jordan out of her mind.

“So, what happened to those guys in the video?” She asked.

“I think they got arrested. You saw the video.”

“Yeah, but I couldn’t see if it was the Detroit or Dearborn Police.”

“We’ll find out soon.” Brian turned to her as he guided his blue Prius to their destination. “You seem awfully interested, girl. What, you thought one was cute?”

She blushed. Of course she thought he was cute. It was Jordan Noble. The man she was going to marry. The man she hated for the better part of a decade. The man who saved her life not too long ago and maybe, just maybe, she still was in love with. Just thinking about it gave her a headache and she definitely wasn’t going to share this with Brian. She didn’t need his input.

Brian illegally parked in the circular driveway of the police building. They muscled their way into an empty space in the main hall. She had a second so she texted Holmes and King, her editors back home, about the new turn the assignment had taken. Less than a minute later, King texted back:

Follow up – good instincts! Big things coming!

A smile creased her lips at the praise from King when her phone announced another text.

From Holmes: Look if you want to talk just say so.

She shook her head and returned the phone to her pocket. Men!
